CAT VACCINATIONS & WELLNESS CARE

CAT VACCINATIONS

CAT VACCINATIONS

At Narangba Vet, we believe that keeping your cat protected from preventable diseases is fundamental to a long and happy life. That is why each vaccination appointment includes a full wellness consultation, giving your cat the very best care from the start.

WHY REGULAR VISITS MATTER

KITTENS
KITTENS

Kittens receive antibodies from their mother, but these fade after a few months and can interfere with vaccination. For this reason, we follow a vaccination protocol at approximately 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. At the same time, we’ll conduct a thorough physical examination, check for congenital issues or genetic predispositions, and discuss preventative health care.

ADULTS
ADULTS

As your cat matures, immunity may decline. Annual booster vaccinations alongside wellness exams are the best way to sustain protection. Cats are masters at concealing illness, so regular visits are vital to maintain wellbeing and identify early clinical signs.

SENIORS
SENIORS

From around seven years onward, your cat may face age-related health issues like kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, arthritis, or dental problems. Routine assessments enable us to detect these early, tailor care, and support a longer comfortable life.

WHAT A TYPICAL VISIT INCLUDES

Full physical examination covering eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, skin, coat, mobility, and body condition, plus heart and lung assessment.
Bespoke plan and recommendations for your cat’s future care, which may include further diagnostics, medications, or changes to your at-home routine.
Nutritional and weight management advice tailored to your cat’s age, breed, or lifestyle.
Parasite and vaccination recommendations covering worms, fleas, ticks, and vaccine scheduling based on your cat’s risk.
Time to discuss behavioural, dietary, or lifestyle questions. We encourage you to bring any concerns, and we’ll answer thoroughly.

CORE VACCINATIONS FOR CATS

At Narangba Vet, we protect cats against the most common and dangerous feline diseases through our core vaccine programme:

  • Feline Panleukopenia (Distemper): A highly contagious virus that attacks the immune system, gut, and blood cells. It can cause severe vomiting, diarrhoea, and dehydration.

  • Feline Herpesvirus (Rhinotracheitis): Causes sneezing, eye or nose discharge, and mouth ulcers, and may lead to chronic respiratory illness.

  • Feline Calicivirus: A leading cause of upper respiratory disease, often resulting in mouth ulcers, sneezing, discharge, and sometimes serious complications.

  • Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV): A virus that weakens the immune system, often leads to secondary infections or cancer, and can be fatal. FeLV vaccination may be recommended based on your cat’s lifestyle.

  • Rabies: Where required by law or in high-risk areas, we vaccinate against rabies to protect your cat and the wider community.

Keeping vaccinations up to date means you’re helping safeguard your cat and the feline population at large.

BEYOND VACCINES: YEAR-ROUND PROTECTION

Parasite Prevention
We provide year-round protection against external and internal parasites:

  • Heartworm & Lungworm: Cats may be exposed through mosquitoes or snails. Preventive treatment is far safer than treating an infection.

  • Flea & Tick Control: We offer long-acting or monthly treatments in spot-on, tablet or injection form tailored to your cat’s needs.

  • Intestinal Worming: Regular worming treats roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. This is especially important for kittens, outdoor cats or those that hunt.

ANNUAL HEALTH CHECKS

A yearly veterinary health check is important at every life stage. During the visit, we will:

  • Examine the heart, lungs, skin, eyes, and teeth, and assess weight

  • Review diet, lifestyle, and behaviour

  • Recommend tests (blood, urine, faecal) to uncover hidden illness early

  • Assess dental health and offer weight management advice

Regular checks allow us to catch problems early and adapt care as your cat ages.

AFTER VACCINATION: WHAT TO EXPECT

AFTER VACCINATION: WHAT TO EXPECT

Following vaccination, some cats may feel a little subdued, unsettled or have mild swelling at the injection site. These mild reactions usually resolve quickly with rest and plenty of water. If symptoms persist or worsen, please contact us immediately.
